Wagner, Sieglinde (1921– )

Austrian soprano. In 1942 she made her debut at Linz, as Erda in Das Rheingold/The Rhine Gold She sang at the Vienna Volksoper (1947–52) and the Berlin Städtische (later Deutsche) Oper (1952–86). She appeared at Salzburg from 1949, as Leda in the first performance of Strauss's Romeo und Julia (1950), and Wagner-Régeny's Das Bergwerk zu Falun (1961). Between 1962 and 1973 she sang at Bayreuth. She was often heard in Bach's sacred music (for example the Christmas Oratorio).
