Wagner, Sieglinde (1921- )

Austrian soprano. In 1942 she made her debut at Linz, as Erda in Das Rheingold/The Rhine Gold She sang at the Vienna Volksoper (1947-52) and the Berlin Städtische (later Deutsche) Oper (1952-86). She appeared at Salzburg from 1949, as Leda in the first performance of Strauss's Romeo und Julia (1950), and Wagner-Régeny's Das Bergwerk zu Falun (1961). Between 1962 and 1973 she sang at Bayreuth. She was often heard in Bach's sacred music (for example the Christmas Oratorio).
