Wagner, Wieland

    0.04 sec.

Wagner, Wieland (Adolf Gottfried) (1917–1966)

German producer, son of Siegfried Wagner. He studied painting, music, and stage production in Munich, and designed sets for Parsifal at Bayreuth in 1937. His first productions were at Nuremberg between 1942 and 1944. (Die Walküre/The Valkyrie and Siegfried). After World War II he sought to evade his own and Bayreuth's Nazi past. From the reopening of the Bayreuth theatre in 1951 until his death he was in charge of production; his work was noted for its highly stylized values, often achieved with a minimum of props but careful lighting. He was also invited to produce operas (including Fidelio, Salome, Wozzeck, and Lulu) in other European cities, notably at Stuttgart.
