Wagner, Wolfgang (Manfred Martin)

    0.01 sec.

Wagner, Wolfgang (Manfred Martin) (1919- )

German producer, brother of Wieland Wagner. He studied production at the Berlin Staatsoper, where he produced one of his father's operas in 1944. He was associated with his brother at Bayreuth from 1951 and himself produced operas there from 1953 (he was appointed artistic director in 1966). He invited Patrice Chéreau and Peter Hall to Bayreuth, in 1967 and 1983 respectively, to produce the Ring. Lacking the conspicuous talent of his relatives, he has nevertheless exercised considerable influence at Bayreuth. His autobiography, Acts, was published 1994.
