Wagner, Siegfried (Helferich Richard) (1869–1930)

German composer and conductor. He was the son of Richard Wagner. Although intended to become an architect, he studied music with Engelbert Humperdinck and Julius Kniese (1848–1905), and gained much experience by assisting at the Wagner festival performances at Bayreuth, some of which he conducted after 1896. When his mother, Cosima, became too old to manage the affairs of the theatre, he took its direction in hand in 1909.
