Wake County

County in east-central North Carolina; area 2,212 sq km/854 sq mi; population (1990) 423,400. It is situated in the Piedmont. The Neuse River flows through the county. Its administrative headquarters is the state capital, Raleigh. With its Federal and state offices, industry, and growing suburbs, Raleigh dominates the economy of a formerly agricultural county.
