Walbrook

Road in the City of London, England. It runs just west of Cannon Street Station. The name is derived from the river that once flowed into the River Thames at this point. Just beyond the eastern bank of the river was the site chosen by the Romans for fortification when they invaded Britain in AD 43.

Walbrook is thought to have been one of the first areas of Roman settlement in London. Many Roman remains have been found on the site. The church of St Stephen Walbrook 1672–79 has a fine interior designed by Christopher Wren; it has been restored following destruction in World War II.
