Wałbrzych

Capital of Wałbrzych province, Poland, in the foothills of the Sudeten Mountains, 69 km/43 mi southwest of Wrocław; population (2002) 130,300. The town has coal, iron, steel, and engineering industries, and produces chemicals, glass, and pottery. Until 1945 it was part of German Lower Silesia.
