Walker, Penelope (1956– )

English mezzo-soprano. She studied in London and with Brigitte Fassbaender in Munich, singing in concert from 1976. She made her London opera debut as Pacini's Maria Tudor with Opera Rara, in 1983. From 1985 she appeared with the English National Opera ensemble, as Tippett's Sosostris and Kate Pinkerton; she was Fricka in Wagner's Ring for Welsh National Opera (1986) and Anna in Berlioz's Les Troyens/The Trojans for Scottish Opera. She became a member of Zurich Opera in 1991. She made many concert appearances, in Handel, Elgar, and Wagner.
