Wall Street Journal, The

US newspaper, established in 1889 to cover mainly business and economic news. Published in New York, New York, it has an international reputation for accuracy and in-depth reporting and now has the largest circulation of any US paper, with around 1.9 million copies sold daily. Founded by Charles H Dow, it is still owned by Dow Jones & Company.

Although aimed primarily at business executives, with detailed tables and reports of financial and stock market activities, the Journal also includes wide coverage of politics and other news of general interest. One of its hallmarks is a whimsical daily feature on page one.
