Wallace, John

Wallace, John (1949– )

Scottish trumpeter and music director. He studied at King's College, Cambridge, the Royal Academy of Music, London, and York University. He became principal of the London Philharmonia in 1976, with whom he made regular concerto performances. He made further solo appearances throughout the UK, the Far East, and the USA. Malcolm Arnold, Tim Souster, and Maxwell Davies have written concertos for him; he also premiered the concertos of Muldowney, Macmillan, and Saxton (1993). He played Birtwistle's Endless Parade at Glasgow, in 1995. He performed many concerts of Baroque music with his group, the Wallace Collection.
