Wallace line

Imaginary line running down the Lombok Strait in Southeast Asia, between the island of Bali and the islands of Lombok and Sulawesi. It was identified by English naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace as separating the South Asian (Oriental) and Australian biogeographical regions, each of which has its own distinctive animals.

Subsequently, others have placed the boundary between these two regions at different points in the Malay archipelago, owing to overlapping migration patterns.
