Wallingford

Market town in Oxfordshire, England, on the right bank of the River Thames, 17 km/11 mi southeast of Oxford; population (2001) 6,500. Wallingford is surrounded by rich arable land, and is the site of a large grain-storage facility. The town's charter as a borough was first granted by Henry II in 1155.

Near to the town is the Hydraulics Research Station at Howbery Park.

Wallingford is the site of a Roman camp and a Norman fort, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.

Wallingford

Town in New Haven County, south-central Connecticut; population (1990) 40,800. It is located 21 km/13 mi north-northeast of New Haven on the Quinnipiac River. Founded in 1667, it has a silver industry dating from c. 1835. It also cultivates vegetables. Modern manufactures include electrical equipment, plastics, resins, and apparel. The exclusive prep school Choate Rosemary Hall is in the town.
