Walmisley, Thomas Attwood (1814–1856)

English organist and composer. He learnt music from his father, the glee composer and teacher, Thomas Forbes Walmisley (1783–1866), and studied with his godfather, Attwood. In 1833, after three years as organist at Croydon, he became organist of Trinity and St John's Colleges, Cambridge, where he also devoted himself to the study of mathematics and wrote poetry. In 1836 he became professor of music, though he did not take the Mus. D. degree until 1848.
