Waltham Cross

Waltham Cross

Town in Hertfordshire, England, about 21 km/13 mi north of London; population (2001) 9,500. Nearby is one of the Eleanor Cross monuments erected by Edward I to commemorate the resting places of the coffin of his wife, Queen Eleanor of Castile, on its way to Westminster Abbey in 1290. The cross, built in 1291, is heavily restored.
