Warchus, Matthew (1967– )

English theatre director. His productions include Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1992), The Life of Stuff (1993), Henry V and Volpone (both 1995, Evening Standard Best Director Award), Art (1996, Evening Standard Best Comedy Award, 1998 Tony Best Play Award), and Hamlet (1997).

Other plays include the Sam Shepard revival True West (2000) and the comedy Life (x) 3 (2003), written by Art playwright Yasmina Reza.

He is an associate director for the West Yorkshire Playhouse. He won the 1993 Shakespeare's Globe Most Promising Newcomer Award for his production of Much Ado About Nothing (Queen's Theatre). He has directed plays for the National Youth Theatre, the Bristol Old Vic Theatre, the Donmar Warehouse, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the Royal National Theatre; and operas for the English National Opera, Opera North, and the Welsh National Opera.
