Ward, David (1922–1983)

Scottish bass. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London with C Carey and then with H Hotter. After singing with the chorus (1952) he made his debut as soloist in 1953. He appeared in London at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, from 1960 as Pogner, Wotan, Arkel, Rocco, and Morosus in the first British performance of Die schweigsame Frau/The Silent Woman (1961). He appeared in minor roles at Bayreuth and as Wotan in Buenos Aires (1967).
