Ward Price, George

    0.07 sec.

Ward Price, George (1886–1961)

English journalist who made his name covering the First Balkan War (1912–13) and various theatres of conflict in World War I. He continued working as an official war correspondent during World War II and the Korean War.

While studying at St Catherine's College, Cambridge, and about to begin a walking tour in Europe during the summer of 1906, Ward-Price wrote to the editor of the Daily Mail, suggesting that the newspaper pay his travel expenses in return for a series of articles. Within a year he had joined the paper's staff as foreign correspondent. His dispatches from the battlefields of World War I included reports on the disastrous Allied Dardanelles campaign (1915–16) and the Italian retreat from Caporetto in 1917. Later, he reported the French Foreign Legion's campaign in Morocco in 1933, and conducted interviews with the dictators Mussolini and Hitler.
