Warkworth Castle, Northumberland. Building began in the 12th century, although the curtain wall and much of the rest of the castle was constructed during the 13th century. The seat of the Percy family, the castle stands on a hill above the River Coquet.

Village in Northumberland, northeast England, on the River Coquet, 2 km/1 mi from the North Sea; population (2001) 2,000. The remains of Warkworth Castle, founded in the 12th century, can be seen here, and Warkworth hermitage, a hermit's refuge cut into the cliffs in the 14th century, is nearby.
