Warm Springs

Resort town in Meriwether County, west Georgia; population (1990) 400. It is located 53 km/33 mi north-northeast of Columbus. The springs here were used by American Indians before whites found them in the late 18th century. The US president, Franklin D Roosevelt, who died here on 12 April 1945, had been treated here earlier for polio, and had established the Warm Springs Foundation in 1927. His ‘Little White House’ is now a museum.

Warm Springs

Town in Jefferson County, northwest Oregon; population (1990) 2,300. It is located 145 km/90 mi southeast of Portland. Warm Springs is the trade centre of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, which has been home to various Sahaptin, Chinook, and Shoshonean groups since 1855. The reservation lies east of the Cascade Range, with the Deschutes River forming its east boundary.

Miller, who grew up on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in Central Oregon, said the event gives people a chance to not only consider what has happened to Native American people in the past, but also what continues to happen to them today.
