Warner Robins

City in Houston County, central Georgia; population (1990) 43,700. It is located 27 km/17 mi south of Macon, on the Ocmulgee River. Industries include nuts, fruits, and aeroplane parts. The agricultural hamlet of Wellston was renamed Warner Robins when Robins Air Force Base (home of the Flying Tigers, a group of US pilots in World War II) was established nearby in 1943. The city and base have been closely linked ever since; aircraft parts are manufactured in the city, which is also home to the Museum of Aviation and the headquarters for the Air Force Reserve.
