Warrenpoint

Warrenpoint

Seaside resort in County Down, Northern Ireland, on the northern shore of Carlingford Lough; population (2001) 7,100. It succeeded Newry as the main port in this area, and has facilities for container shipments to England. Warrenpoint is also a centre for yachting and sea angling.

Narrow Water Castle, 2 km/1 mi to the northwest, was built by the Duke of Ormond in 1663 on the site of a castle constructed here by John Savicky in 1560; it is now an art gallery.

WARRENPOINT v DOLLINGSTOWN Last round: Warrenpoint 4 Hanover 1; Dromara Village 1 Dollingstown 2.
There was no evidence of a terrorist link to the crash, which happened on the main Warrenpoint to Kilkeel road, and there were no other vehicles involved.
The winners were Lee O'Hare, 8, from Carrick Primary School in Warrenpoint, County Down, David Shuttle, 9, from St Oswald's RC Primary School in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, Kevin Moran, 10, from Loughash Primary School in Strabane, County Tyrone and Naomi Armstrong, aged 11, from South Farnborough Junior School in Farnborough, Hampshire.
