Warrenpoint

Warrenpoint

Seaside resort in County Down, Northern Ireland, on the northern shore of Carlingford Lough; population (2001) 7,100. It succeeded Newry as the main port in this area, and has facilities for container shipments to England. Warrenpoint is also a centre for yachting and sea angling.

Narrow Water Castle, 2 km/1 mi to the northwest, was built by the Duke of Ormond in 1663 on the site of a castle constructed here by John Savicky in 1560; it is now an art gallery.
