Washington Court House

Town and administrative headquarters of Fayette County, southwest Ohio; population (1990) 13,000. It is situated on Paint Creek, 56 km/35 mi south-southwest of Columbus. It is a trading centre for the surrounding agricultural area, in which livestock, poultry, and dairy farming predominate. The town also produces automobile and aircraft parts, fertilizer, and foodstuffs. Saddle horses, pacers, and trotters are raised locally.

Its name was changed from Washington in the 1820s to distinguish it from four other Washingtons then in the state; the name Washington is still sometimes used.
