Washoe County

County in northwest Nevada; area 17,115 sq km/6,608 sq mi; population (1990) 254,700. It is bordered by the California state line to the west and extends 275 km/170 mi north to the Oregon state line. Its administrative headquarters is Reno, which dominates the economy of the county's southern section with its tourism, gambling, and manufacturing. Livestock is raised, and there is gold, silver, copper, and lead mining. Irrigated farming is practised in the south. Pyramid Lake lies within Washoe County.
