Washtenaw County

County in southeast Michigan; area 1,839 sq km/710 sq mi; population (1990) 282,900. The Raisin, Huron, and Saline rivers flow through the county. Its administrative headquarters is Ann Arbor. The county raises livestock, poultry, alfalfa, beans, corn, grain, and sugar beets, and makes dairy products. Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti have extensive manufacturing facilities. There has also been significant commercial development north of Ann Arbor. In the northwest corner are many small lakes and resorts, the Pinckney and Waterloo state recreation areas, and the Gregory State Game Area.
