Watson, Lilian (1947– )

English soprano. She studied in London and made her debut at the 1970 Wexford Festival, in Britten's Albert Herring. She made her Welsh National Opera debut in 1971, as Papagena. From 1971 she appeared in London at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Barbarina, Blondchen, Tytania, and Janáček's Vixen (1990). She sang at Glyndebourne from 1976, as Sophie, Despina, and Susanna. Her Salzburg appearances included Beethoven's Marzelline (1982) and Blondchen (1988); she sang Titania at Aix-en-Provence (1991–92). She returned to the Welsh National Opera in 1993 to sing the Fairy Godmother in Massenet's Cendrillon. She has performed further engagements in Paris, Vienna, and Munich.
