Waugh, Mark Edward (1965– )Australian cricketer. An elegant right-handed batsman of prodigious talent, whose ability to score quick runs against the best bowling attacks made him a key member of both Australia's Test and One-day sides. The twin brother of Steve Waugh, he scored a century on his Test debut against England in 1991. A highly skilled fielder, he finished his career with a world record 181 catches in Test matches. Also useful as a bowler, he took many important wickets with his medium pace or off-spin deliveries. He helped Australia to win the 1999 World Cup. During the tournament he became Australia's most prolific scorer in One-day internationals, overtaking Allan Border's total of 6,524. He also became the first Australian to reach 1,000 runs in World Cup matches.
