Wauwatosa

Town in Milwaukee County, southeast Wisconsin; population (1990) 51,300. It lies to the west of Milwaukee, of which it is a commuter suburb on the Menominee River. Steel scaffolding, metal parts, and electric motors are manufactured in the town. Wauwatosa's Annunciation Greek Orthodox church was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

The town's Algonquian name means ‘firefly’, and refers to the numerous fireflies seen in thickets bordering the river.
