Weaver, Sigourney

Weaver, Sigourney (1949– )

US actor who attained star status, and a 1987 Academy Award nomination, with her role as the resourceful heroine in the Alien series of films (1979–97). She showed a talent for understated comedy in Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989). Her performance as the zoologist Dian Fossey in Gorillas in the Mist (1988) earned her a further Academy Award nomination. In 1999 she parodied her Alien role in the comedy Galaxy Quest.

Her other films include Working Girl (1988), The Year of Living Dangerously (1982), The Ice Storm (1997), Heartbreakers (2001), and The Village (2004).
