Weaver, William (1923– )

US writer, translator, and music critic. In 1948 he moved to Italy and, as a writer and European newspaper correspondent, eventually became known in the USA as a lecturer and opera broadcaster. He won international awards for his English translations of French and Italian operas and modern Italian prose, including Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose (1983). Weaver was born in Washington, DC.
