Weber, (Jacob) Gottfried (1779–1839)

German composer and theorist. He pursued a lawyer's profession at Mannheim (1804), Mainz (1812), and Darmstadt (1818). In 1810 his family provided refuge for their namesakes, Carl Maria von Weber and his father, after the former's banishment from Stuttgart, and they formed a music and cultural society. Weber wrote a number of theoretical books.
