Weckerlin, Jean-Baptiste (Théodore) (1821–1910)

French composer and editor. He studied at the Paris Conservatory. Although unsuccessful, he was determined to make his way as a musician, collected much early French music, and in 1863 became archivist of the Société des Compositeurs de Musique, whose library he established. In 1869 Auber invited him to the Conservatory library, where he became head in 1876. He edited many collections of early French songs and other music.

opera L'Organiste dans l'embarras (1953) and five others (some in Alsatian dialect); Roland for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra; Mass and motets; symphony and suite for orchestra; chamber music; songs.
