Wedemeyer, Albert C

Wedemeyer, Albert C(oady) (1897–1989)

US soldier. He graduated from West Point in 1918 and served with distinction in Tientsin, China (1930–32), where he studied Mandarin Chinese, and the Philippines (1932–34). He was the first American officer to study at the Kriegsakadamie (German general staff school) since World War I. He was commander of all US forces in the China theatre during World War II (1944–45). He retired from the army in 1951 and wrote the Wedemeyer Reports (1954). He then worked as a business executive. Wedemeyer was born in Omaha, Nebraska.
