Wednesbury

Town in the county of West Midlands, England, 12 km/7 mi northwest of Birmingham; population (2001) 24,350. Industries include engineering and the manufacture of railway rolling stock, boiler plates, axles, springs, bridges, and girders. Lighter industries include the manufacture of electrical goods, motor-vehicle components, metal windows, and household accessories. In Anglo-Saxon times Wednesbury was a fortified stronghold, and it is mentioned in the Domesday Book.

The church, part of which dates from the 12th century, is one of the oldest in the industrial Black Country.
