Weisman, Frederick R

    0.04 sec.

Weisman, Frederick R (1912-1994)

US entrepreneur, art collector, and philanthropist. He moved to Los Angeles, California, in the 1930s, and entered the produce business, joining the giant food conglomerate Hunt Foods, and eventually becoming president of the company. In 1970 he established Mid-Atlantic Toyota Distributors; when he sold the distributorship in 1990 he further increased his already large fortune.

The child of Russian immigrants, Weisman was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. For many years he collected paintings and sculpture - mostly modern American - some of which he donated to museums; but about 350 prime works remained in his mansion in Holmby Hills, outside Los Angeles, which he intended to keep as a private museum. He made generous donations to several museums and various medical institutions, notably the Californian Venice Family Clinic that serves the poor and homeless.
