Welensky, Roy (1907–1991)Rhodesian politician. He was instrumental in the creation in 1953 of the Central African Federation, comprising Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and Nyasaland (now Malawi), and was prime minister 1956–63, when the federation was disbanded. His Southern Rhodesian Federal Party was defeated by Ian Smith's Rhodesian Front in 1964. In 1965, following Smith's unilateral declaration of Southern Rhodesian independence from Britain, Welensky left politics. He was knighted in 1953. How to thank TFD for its existence?
