Welting, Ruth (1949– )| US soprano. She studied in New York where she made her debut at the City Opera in 1970, as Blondchen. She was best known for her coloratura in the role of Zerbinetta, which she sang on her debuts at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London (1975), the Metropolitan Opera House, New York (1976), and Salzburg (1982). Her other roles included Lucia de Lammermoor, Rosina, Olympia, and Ophelia in Hamlet (Chicago, 1990). |
