Wenkoff, Spas (1928– )

Bulgarian tenor. He studied in Sofia and Dresden, appearing in East Germany from 1965; he was Tristan at Dresden, in 1975. From 1975 he was a member of the Berlin Staatsoper; between 1976 and 1983 he appeared at Bayreuth, as Tristan and Tannhäuser. He also sang Tristan on his New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera House (1981), and at Cologne (1990). He appeared further in Vienna and Munich.
