Wesendonck Lieder

Five songs for voice and piano by Wagner (texts by Mathilde Wesendonck (1828-1902), with whom the composer was in love); composed in Zurich, 1857-58. Usually heard in orchestral arrangement by Felix Mottl. Titles are 1. Der Engel; 2. Stehe still; 3. Im Treibhaus; 4. Schmerzen; 5. Träume. Nos. 3 and 5 were studies for Tristan, also written under the influence of Mathilde Wesendonck.
