Wessel, Caspar

    0.04 sec.

Wessel, Caspar (1745-1818)

Norwegian surveyor and mathematician. In 1799, he developed a geometrical representation of complex numbers. However, because Wessel's work remained unknown until 1897, such a representation is called an ‘Argand diagram’ after the Swiss mathematician Jean-Robert Argand, who published his system in 1806.
