Wesseling

Town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, 12 km/7 mi south of Cologne, on the left bank of the Rhine; population (1994) 32,900. The main industry is the production of ethylene.

Wesseling pioneered the production of petrol from brown coal (lignite), the raw materials being obtained from the Ville field to the west of the town.
