West, Joseph (died 1692)
| English-born American colonist. He was the agent and storekeeper for the new settlement at Albemarle Point, South Carolina. He became governor in 1671 and led the fledgling colony through a year of scarcity. After a brief interruption, he served again as governor (1674–82). |
