West Chester

Town and administrative headquarters of Chester County, southeast Pennsylvania; population (1990) 18,000. It is located 40 km/25 mi west of Philadelphia. Although primarily residential, it also serves as an agricultural trade and banking centre, has other business and research organizations. It is home to West Chester State College (1812).
