West Chicago

Town in Du Page County, northeast Illinois; population (1990) 14,800. It is situated on the west branch of the Du Page River, 48 km/30 mi west of Chicago. It manufactures movable buildings, building materials, rare-earth chemicals, gas mantles, and lighting implements. Railway work shops are also located here. The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory lies to the southwest.
