West Columbia

Town in Lexington County, central South Carolina; population (1990) 10,600. It is situated across the Congaree River from Columbia, at the confluence of the Broad and Saluda rivers. It is a primarily residential suburb, with some light manufactures. It was known until 1938 as New Brookland.
