West Covina

Town in Los Angeles County, southwest California; population (1990) 96,100. It is situated at the east end of the San Gabriel Valley, 32 km/20 mi east of Los Angeles city centre. It is now a retail and service centre and a bedroom community for Los Angeles and other nearby manufacturing and commercial cities.

West Covina was founded in the 1870s in a rural and agricultural region, and had citrus and walnut groves, as well as vineyards, for a brief period. After World War II, it grew rapidly.
