West Memphis

Town in Crittenden County, northeast Arkansas; population (1990) 28,300. It lies opposite Memphis, Tennessee, on the west bank of the Mississippi River. Originally a logging camp, it now serves as a milling centre. It is also a market, processing, and shipping centre for Delta corn, grain, rice, soybean, alfalfa, and cotton producers. Liquid fertilizers are among its manufactures.
