Westbrook

Town in Cumberland County, southwest Maine; population (1990) 16,100. It is situated on the Presumpscot River, 10 km/6 mi west of Portland. It is part of the latter's growing suburban area. Westbrook has a large paper mill, and produces wood products, machinery, shoes, textiles, crushed stone products, and jewellery. The town is home to Westbrook College (1831).
