Westchester

Town in Dade County, southeast Florida; population (1990) 29,900. It is located10 km/6 mi west-southwest of Miami city centre, and is a residential suburb on the Tamiami Trail.

Westchester

Town in Cook County, northeast Illinois; population (1990) 17,300. It is situated on Salt Creek, 23 km/14 mi west of Chicago. Westchester is a densely populated suburb.

It was founded by public utilities executive Samuel Insull in the 1920s as a quiet bedroom community at what was then the west edge of the Chicago area. 15,000 American elm trees were planted along the streets, and three forest preserve areas border the town.
