Western Springs

Town in Cook County, northeast Illinois; population (1990) 12,000. It is located 24 km/15 mi west of Chicago. A residential community, it was founded in 1871. It is named after local mineral springs where the Potawatomi and fur trappers once gathered; the spings are now in Spring Rock Park.
