Western swing

Big-band, jazz-influenced country music that originated in Texas in the 1930s. A swinging, inventive dance music, with the fiddle a predominant instrument, it was developed by Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys and remained a strong influence on popular music into the 1950s, with a revival of interest beginning in the early 1970s and still continuing. Other Western swing groups include Milton Brown and his Musical Brownies (1932–36) and Asleep at the Wheel (1969– ).
